Hello! My name is Andrea. I am on the Board for PCMH and I am acting as the Chapter Leader for the GTA - if you would like to get involved in the GTA, please let me know!
I am the mother of 2 sons - my 10 year old son has Tourette Syndrome, Bipolar Disorder, OCD and a Learning Disability. My 14 year son does not have any disorders - other than been frustrated with his younger brother. Parenting is VERY challenging, but what helps me to get through it all is the advocacy work that I do for PCMH and the amazing parents that I have met there! I hope to meet more parents through this discussion board!

Hi Andrea! You bring up something that is often talked about but poorly researched or understood. The impact on siblings. My son has grown up in the shadow of his sisters illness. As we navigate from crisis to crisis he either withdraws or lashes out in a passive aggressive fashion. How do we as parents balance the needs of a child who has a mental illness and one that does not? I often have felt that the crisis of children's mental health services in this province has somewhat forced me to neglect my son as we battle(d) to save our daughters life. If any parents have found ways to deal with the impact on siblings would love to hear from you so I to can help my child cope.
